SITUATION

 The town is placed in Valencia province, in Camp de Morvedre región, and inside the subregión of La Baronia . It is in The Valley of La Calderona and beside the Pâlancia River.

The twn’sextension  is of 11.3 Km2, placed  a 100 m. up to the sea level and  30 Km far from Valencia and S6 km from Sagunt Town centre. This indicates its priviledged aituation. Among the muntains but very close to the sea, at the same time.

Nowadays it has 3000 inhabitants, having raised its population notably during the last  four years, due to its closeness toValencia and Sagunt, and its easiness on getting by car.All this have made Gilet the town of The Baronia which has increased more its populatiom, and it continues expanding now.

RELIEF AND VEGETATION

The Land´S surface is montainous, and the mountains’   height ,can reach 400m in the West. The most important are:

- Xocainet (437m)

- Pico del Águila (441m)

- La Redona o Peña (427m)

- Mont de la Creu (325m)

The Vegetation is mostly pine and Mediterranean bushes. .

CLIMATE

The typical climate is Mediterranean, with a hot summer and soft winter,, the average temperatura is approximately 18.5degrees. It rains quite irregularly but the rain is more frequent during fall and spring,

AGRICULTURE

The major part of the population have dedicated themselves to agriculture growing mainly in dry land. Today, the growing in dry land has been abandoned, with a new interest for irrigations farming, mainly , orange trees.  In dry  land, olive trees are cultivated mainly..

INDUSTRY

Traditionally,Gilet’s mindustry has benn developed with the natural resources that it has, but 20 years ago it was know buby its artesanal production of Straw grooms., though today this profession has been disappering.  It is possible that another kind of industries will be installed, due to the population’s increase and Gilt’s proximity with other important towns, like Sagunt.

HOW TO GET HERE

It is Beside the national highway al costat , Sagunto-Burgos, Four kilometers far from its beginning in Sagunto.  You can  link easily with it both from the north and the south, Front he National Road N340, which comes along de Valencian coast from North to  South or taking the A7 Highway, linking it with the N234 beside Sagunt.
